On March 16, 2020, the president of Venezuela announced the following: "... as of tomorrow, at 5:00 in the morning, the entire Venezuela enters into social quarantine.
After a conflictive year devastated by the pandemic, different containment strategies were used by the government; as well as the flexibility, which was extended progressively, began being one week, then two weeks, then three; and so on until the first full month of easing that took place in December 2020.
As a result of this, the following months of January, February and mid-March also remained more flexible, which led to a significant increase in infections.
Due to this, on March 16, 2021, the president announced the following: "... collective quarantine, drastic and necessary measure.
